What's Happening?
A significant portion of Singapore's workforce is experiencing work-related stress and burnout, according to data from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and partner organizations. The findings are based on the iWorkHealth assessment tool, which has been used since March 2021. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Manpower Shawn Huang noted that while participation in the assessment is voluntary, the results indicate a stable level of stress among employees. To address this, MOM and the Workplace Safety and Health Council are promoting initiatives like the Tripartite Advisory on Mental Health and Wellbeing at Workplaces and the Wellbeing Champions Network to support mental health in the workplace.
Why It's Important?
The prevalence of burnout among Singapore's workforce highlights the urgent need for effective mental health support systems. As work-related stress can lead to decreased productivity and increased turnover, addressing these issues is crucial for maintaining a healthy and efficient workforce. The initiatives being promoted aim to provide practical guidance and resources to employers, helping them create supportive environments that can mitigate stress and prevent burnout. This focus on mental health is essential for ensuring long-term employee well-being and sustaining economic growth in the face of global uncertainties.
