Atomic-6, an aerospace startup, has introduced a new composite material solution called Space Armor to address the growing issue of space debris. The company claims that its hexagonal tiles can protect
against untrackable debris and over 90% of debris in low Earth orbit. This development comes amid increasing concerns about space junk, highlighted by recent incidents involving SpaceX Starlink satellites falling to Earth. Astrophysicist Jonathan McDowell has noted the hazardous environment created by approximately 25,000 pieces of tracked space junk and potentially 170 million smaller bits of debris.
