What's Happening?
Invest Hamilton County (IHC), in collaboration with the Hamilton County Commissioners, has introduced a new workforce training initiative called 'Rise and Reskill'. This program is part of IHC's InvestOnward initiative, which aims to assist individuals
in recovery by providing career development, skills training, and comprehensive support services. The program is designed to help participants gain and maintain meaningful employment, thereby reducing recidivism rates. The curriculum, developed by Ivy Tech Community College Hamilton County, includes eight hours of classroom instruction and is offered monthly. Participants are referred through recovery houses or partner organizations and receive a work-ready resume, employment tools, and access to supportive services.
Why It's Important?
The 'Rise and Reskill' program addresses a critical need for employment among individuals in recovery, which is a significant factor in reducing recidivism and promoting long-term recovery. By providing structured career training and support, the program not only benefits the participants but also contributes to public safety and community well-being. The initiative reflects a broader understanding of the importance of employment in recovery, as steady jobs can significantly lower recidivism rates. This program also highlights the growing demand for skilled workers across various industries, offering real opportunities for individuals in recovery to find purpose and stability through employment.
What's Next?
The program is set to continue its monthly offerings at Ivy Tech Community College Hamilton County, with ongoing support from local organizations like Aspire Indiana Health and Bridges of Hope. As the program progresses, it is expected to expand its reach and potentially serve as a model for similar initiatives in other regions. Stakeholders will likely monitor the program's impact on employment rates and recidivism, using the data to refine and improve the curriculum and support services. The success of 'Rise and Reskill' could encourage further investment in workforce development programs targeting recovery populations.
