What's Happening?
Wrap Technologies, Inc. has introduced the MERLIN-Interdictor, a non-lethal drone interdiction system designed for public safety. This system, known as Drone First Responder – X (DFR-X™), aims to transform
standard drones from passive observers into active tools for law enforcement and public safety missions. The MERLIN-Interdictor uses Wrap's BolaWrap tether technology to deter and disrupt threatening behavior. It features a six-cassette payload and integrates with third-party drone platforms. The system has completed internal testing and is ready for production, marking Wrap's first UAS product for law enforcement and defense markets.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of the MERLIN-Interdictor represents a significant advancement in public safety technology, offering law enforcement agencies a new tool to manage threats non-lethally. This system could enhance the ability of officers to respond to incidents more effectively, potentially saving lives by providing immediate intervention capabilities. The product aligns with Wrap's strategy to expand its non-lethal solutions into new areas, including aerial defense and public safety operations. The system's deployment could lead to safer outcomes for both officers and communities, reducing the need for lethal force.
What's Next?
Pre-orders for the MERLIN-Interdictor are set to begin on November 17, 2025. Wrap Technologies plans to offer onboarding packages that include training and operational integration services. The company anticipates that the system will be a critical tool in urban SWAT operations and school safety programs. As the product moves into production, Wrap will focus on ensuring that agencies are equipped with the necessary training and support to effectively utilize the system.
