Orange, a multinational telecommunications corporation, and Eutelsat, a satellite operator, have inaugurated a new teleport hosting Eutelsat's satellite gateway in Martinique. This strategic initiative
aims to bolster satellite coverage for the Eutelsat OneWeb constellation in the Caribbean region. The teleport, located in Lamentin, is built and operated by Orange on behalf of Eutelsat and hosts 14 low Earth orbit antennas. These antennas are designed to provide connectivity in hard-to-reach areas, thereby extending the constellation's global coverage. The project is expected to benefit residents, businesses, military, and maritime actors by offering connectivity with reduced latency, enhancing the region's attractiveness. Eutelsat chose the Caribbean for its unique geography, where coverage is often limited, both on land and at sea. The expanded internet access aims to improve safety and communications at sea.
