China has begun mass production of domestically developed immersion deep-ultraviolet (DUV) lithography machines, a crucial technology for advanced chipmaking. Shanghai Aishengna Electronic Technology Group, a state-owned company, is leading this effort,
incorporating teams from top Chinese lithography startups. This initiative is part of China's broader strategy to achieve semiconductor self-sufficiency, a priority for President Xi Jinping. The machines are expected to be delivered to major Chinese chipmakers, including Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp., Hua Hong Semiconductor, and ChangXin Memory Technologies. While the machines are not yet commercially competitive with those from ASML, they provide an alternative source of equipment amid potential export restrictions from Western countries.
