What's Happening?
Qantas has resumed its seasonal nonstop flights between Melbourne and Delhi, operating three return services per week until March 2026. The flights, using Airbus A330-200 aircraft, will add over 30,000
seats across the season. This service aims to reconnect the Victorian and Indian capitals, aligning with peak travel demand and facilitating trade and investment ties. The route was initially launched in December 2021, post-pandemic, to support economic and familial connections.
Why It's Important?
The resumption of direct flights between Melbourne and Delhi is significant for enhancing tourism and business opportunities between Australia and India. It provides a vital link for Indian tourists, students, and business travelers to access Melbourne's attractions and commercial opportunities. The timing coincides with major cricket events, potentially boosting visitor numbers and economic activity in Victoria. Increased connectivity may also drive competition, reducing travel costs and benefiting consumers.
What's Next?
Qantas will continue to offer year-round connectivity to India via Singapore through its partnership with IndiGo, expanding access to major Indian cities. The airline's strategic focus on India reflects the growing importance of the Indian aviation market. Stakeholders, including tourism operators and businesses, are expected to leverage this connectivity to enhance trade and cultural exchanges.
