Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach has partnered with WildAid Thailand to promote marine conservation and environmental sustainability. The collaboration aims to protect the vibrant waters of Merlin Beach and contribute to the global '30x30' mission,
which seeks to conserve at least 30% of the planet's land and ocean by 2030. The resort recently hosted marine experts who conducted a survey of the Merlin Beach reef, assessing its condition as 'moderate to good' and documenting its rich biodiversity. This initiative is part of the resort's commitment to sustainable tourism, encouraging guests to engage in eco-friendly activities through the Good Travel with Marriott Bonvoy program.
Why It's Important?
The partnership between Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa and WildAid Thailand highlights the growing importance of sustainable tourism and marine conservation. By actively contributing to the '30x30' mission, the resort is helping to preserve marine ecosystems, which are crucial for biodiversity and the health of the planet. This initiative not only benefits the environment but also enhances the resort's appeal to eco-conscious travelers, potentially boosting tourism and local economies. The collaboration serves as a model for other resorts and businesses to integrate sustainability into their operations, promoting responsible travel and environmental stewardship.
What's Next?
Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa and WildAid Thailand plan to continue monitoring the biodiversity and health of the Merlin Beach reef on a quarterly basis. The ongoing research will support efforts to establish the area as a Locally Managed Marine Area (LMMA), providing a protected ecological sanctuary managed by the community. This designation could lead to increased conservation efforts and community involvement, furthering the goals of the '30x30' mission. The resort will also continue to offer eco-friendly initiatives and activities to guests, fostering a deeper connection with nature and promoting sustainable tourism practices.
