What's Happening?
The Scholars Strategy Network (SSN) has announced the opening of applications for the 2026-2027 SSN Media Fellowship. This program is designed to help scholars new to media engagement develop skills to effectively communicate their research findings to broader
audiences. The fellowship offers personalized mentorship, media training workshops, and support from experienced public scholars and SSN staff. Applications are due by September 21, 2026. The fellowship aims to enhance scholars' ability to engage with media platforms, including television, radio, print, and digital media, thereby increasing the visibility and impact of their research.
Why It's Important?
The SSN Media Fellowship addresses a critical gap in academia by equipping scholars with the tools needed to translate complex research into accessible public discourse. This initiative is vital for bridging the gap between academic research and public understanding, potentially influencing public policy and societal change. By fostering media engagement skills, the fellowship empowers scholars to contribute to informed public debates and decision-making processes, enhancing the societal relevance and impact of academic work.
What's Next?
Selected fellows will be notified in October 2026 and paired with mentors. They will participate in an onboarding session and begin media workshops in November 2026. Throughout the academic year, fellows will engage in mentorship meetings and additional workshops, culminating in June 2027. Scholars interested in applying should prepare a detailed application, including a research project description and a media engagement statement, to demonstrate their readiness and potential for public communication.
