What's Happening?
Ocado has integrated Sunswap's zero-emission Endurance transport refrigeration units (TRUs) into its double-decker trailer fleet. These units use electric refrigeration to keep fresh and frozen goods chilled, eliminating diesel and delivering zero-emission performance. The Endurance units offer significant cost savings and high operational performance, reducing CO2 emissions by 22.6 U.S. tons annually. Solar panels on each trailer provide additional energy, reducing grid charging requirements and extending range.
Why It's Important?
The deployment of zero-emission TRUs by Ocado represents a significant step towards sustainable logistics and transportation. By eliminating diesel, Ocado reduces its carbon footprint and operational costs, aligning with broader environmental goals. This move supports the transition to cleaner technologies in the transportation sector, potentially influencing other companies to adopt similar practices. The integration of solar panels further enhances energy efficiency, showcasing innovative solutions for reducing emissions in logistics.
