What's Happening?
Wirral Council has initiated a £1.2 billion framework aimed at facilitating public sector construction, infrastructure, and demolition projects across the North West. This four-year procurement, in collaboration with Procure Partnerships Framework, marks the third generation of the North West Contractor Framework. The framework is designed to support a wide range of public sector organizations, including NHS trusts and local authorities. It includes 13 lots, with six dedicated to general construction projects and six to infrastructure schemes, alongside a specific lot for demolition projects in Merseyside. Contractors are invited to submit bids by October 13, with the framework allowing for various contract forms and award routes.
Why It's Important?
The launch of this framework is significant as it aims to streamline and enhance the delivery of essential public sector projects in the North West region. By providing a structured procurement process, it ensures that public sector organizations can access a diverse pool of contractors, potentially leading to more efficient project completion and cost savings. The framework's focus on fixed overhead and profit rates, alongside established hourly rates, could also lead to more predictable budgeting for public sector entities. This initiative is expected to bolster local economies by creating job opportunities and supporting infrastructure development.
What's Next?
The framework is set to open for bids, with contractors expected to submit their proposals by the October 13 deadline. Following the selection process, successful contractors will be ranked and appointed to the various lots. The framework will remain active for four years, with a future tender anticipated in 2029. Public sector organizations in the North West and Merseyside regions will begin utilizing the framework to initiate and complete their projects, potentially leading to increased public sector investment in the area.
