The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) has called on newly inducted human resource professionals to actively prepare the nation's workforce for the challenges and opportunities presented by automation and emerging technologies. This call was made by Mallam Ahmed Gobir, President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, during the 66th Induction Ceremony in Lagos. Gobir emphasized the need for HR professionals to transition from administrative roles to strategic stewards capable of shaping organizations and influencing national development. The ceremony inducted six professionals as Full Members and 77 as Associate Members of CIPM. Gobir highlighted the World Economic Forum's projection that by 2030, 92 million jobs will be displaced by automation, but 170 million new roles will be created globally, underscoring the critical role HR professionals will play in this transformation.
Why It's Important?

HR professionals are positioned to influence how organizations adapt to these changes, ensuring that the workforce is equipped with the necessary skills for future roles. This shift is significant for Nigeria's economic development, as it could lead to increased productivity and competitiveness on a global scale. The call to action by CIPM highlights the importance of strategic HR management in navigating the complexities of workforce transformation, which could have long-term benefits for both employees and employers in Nigeria.
