What's Happening?
The government has partnered with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to explore the impact of nano fertilisers on agriculture. This collaboration involves a network project focused on nano urea,
with a Memorandum of Understanding signed on November 3, 2025. The project, funded with Rs 21.20 crore, aims to enhance crop yields while reducing chemical fertiliser use. The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) is conducting trials in drought-affected areas, showing promising results in crops like paddy and cotton.
Why It's Important?
This initiative is crucial for advancing sustainable agricultural practices and addressing food security challenges. By reducing reliance on chemical fertilisers, the project supports environmental conservation and promotes healthier soil management. The successful implementation of nano fertilisers could lead to increased agricultural productivity, benefiting farmers and contributing to the economy. It also aligns with global efforts to adopt eco-friendly farming techniques, potentially positioning the country as a leader in agricultural innovation.
