In response to severe flooding in the Majha belt, government school teachers in Amritsar have shifted their focus from planned protests to supporting flood victims. Originally, the Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF) and the Mid-Day Meal Workers’ Union intended to protest against the state government’s unmet promises and policies on Teacher’s Day. However, the devastating floods prompted teachers to prioritize relief efforts. They have collectively donated up to Rs 3.5 lakh to aid affected families. Ashwini Awasthi, state finance secretary and district president of DTF, stated that the funds will be distributed to flood victims based on their needs.
