What's Happening?
The cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people has decreased for the third consecutive year, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF). The 'classic' meal, including a 16-pound turkey and sides like stuffing, rolls, sweet potatoes, peas,
cranberries, and pumpkin pie ingredients, costs an average of $55.18 nationwide. The biggest cost is the turkey, averaging $21.50. Prices vary by region, with the meal costing $61.75 in the West and $50.01 in the South. The cost is down 5% from 2024 and below the record high of $64.05 in 2022.
Why It's Important?
The decline in Thanksgiving dinner costs reflects broader trends in food pricing and consumer spending. Lower costs may provide relief to consumers amid ongoing economic pressures, such as inflation. The price reduction could influence consumer behavior, encouraging more spending on holiday-related activities and goods. Retailers may play a role in keeping turkey prices down, impacting their sales strategies and inventory management during the holiday season.
