What's Happening?
The Maine Agricultural Mediation Program (MAMP), part of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, is calling for original artwork submissions for its 2027 wall calendar and notecards. The theme for the artwork is farming
and tending to the land and sea throughout the seasons. Artists from Maine are invited to submit high-quality images of their work, excluding photography, by May 20. The selected pieces will be featured in the calendar, and artists will receive free copies of the calendar and notecards. The initiative aims to support MAMP's efforts in providing mediation and conflict resolution services to the agricultural community in Maine. MAMP, under the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Mediation Program, assists with issues such as agricultural loans, conservation programs, and family farm transitions.
Why It's Important?
This initiative highlights the intersection of art and agriculture, promoting cultural expression while supporting practical conflict resolution services. By engaging local artists, MAMP not only fosters community involvement but also raises awareness about the challenges faced by the agricultural sector. The proceeds from the calendar and notecard sales will directly fund MAMP's mediation services, which are crucial for resolving disputes and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. This program is vital for Maine's agricultural community, providing a platform for dialogue and problem-solving in a sector that is often fraught with complex issues.
What's Next?
Artists interested in participating must submit their entries by the deadline, ensuring their work meets the specified criteria. Following the selection process, the calendar and notecards will be produced and made available for sale. The funds raised will continue to support MAMP's mediation services, potentially expanding their reach and impact. As the program progresses, it may inspire similar initiatives in other states, further integrating art into agricultural advocacy and support.
