What's Happening?
On December 11, President Santiago Peña of Paraguay arrived in Tashkent for a three-day official visit, marking the first time a Latin American head of state has visited Uzbekistan. This visit signifies a new chapter in the diplomatic relations between
the two countries, which were established in 2001 but remained limited until now. During the visit, President Peña and Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a Joint Statement to guide future bilateral relations and a Memorandum of Understanding for regular political consultations. The leaders discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, food processing, and chemical industries. They also emphasized cultural and humanitarian exchanges, symbolized by planting a tree together.
