What's Happening?
In recognition of National Foster Care Month, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is emphasizing the importance of supporting foster youth as they transition into adulthood. TWC is hosting a series of webinars throughout May to address challenges faced
by foster care alumni and provide resources for their personal and professional development. The webinars will cover topics such as post-traumatic growth, executive functions, and the benefits of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit. These efforts aim to equip foster youth with the skills and opportunities needed to succeed in the workforce.
Why It's Important?
Foster youth often face significant barriers to employment and education as they age out of the foster care system. By providing targeted resources and support, TWC aims to improve the long-term outcomes for these young individuals. This initiative highlights the broader societal responsibility to ensure that foster youth have access to the same opportunities as their peers, ultimately contributing to a more equitable and inclusive workforce.
What's Next?
The TWC will continue to offer resources and support through its Workforce Solutions offices and foster youth transition centers. The success of these initiatives could lead to expanded programs and increased collaboration with other organizations dedicated to supporting foster youth. Stakeholders will likely monitor the impact of these efforts on employment rates and educational attainment among foster care alumni.
