What's Happening?
Eastman Auto & Power Ltd. has launched an 800 MW solar PV panel and module manufacturing facility in Sonipat, India. This development is part of Eastman's strategy to enhance domestic solar manufacturing capabilities and support India's renewable energy
goals. The facility will produce solar panels and modules compliant with Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) norms, aligning with the Indian government's Make in India initiative. Eastman aims to provide integrated solar-plus-storage solutions, combining solar generation with energy storage to offer reliable and clean power. The company emphasizes local sourcing to reduce reliance on imported components, contributing to India's self-reliance in renewable energy.
Why It's Important?
The commissioning of this facility is a significant step towards bolstering India's solar manufacturing infrastructure, crucial for meeting the country's renewable energy targets. By focusing on domestic production, Eastman supports the government's push for self-reliance and reduces dependency on foreign imports. This move is expected to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and enhance the country's energy security. Additionally, the integration of solar and storage solutions can accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar systems, providing cost-effective and sustainable energy options for residential, commercial, and industrial users.
