The National Basketball Association (NBA) has entered into a multi-year partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop a cloud- and AI-based platform aimed at enhancing basketball analytics and fan
engagement. AWS will serve as the Official Cloud and Cloud AI Partner for the NBA, WNBA, NBA G League, Basketball Africa League, and NBA 2K League. This collaboration will introduce NBA Inside the Game powered by AWS, a data intelligence platform that processes billions of data points from player tracking systems to deliver real-time insights through the NBA App, NBA.com, and league broadcasts. The platform will feature advanced basketball statistics such as Defensive Box Score, Shot Difficulty, and Gravity, all derived from machine learning models analyzing optical tracking data collected 60 times per second during games. Additionally, Play Finder will allow users to search for specific plays and strategies across thousands of games, utilizing Amazon's AI services like SageMaker and Bedrock.
