A team of high school students from Rising Aviation High School in Addison, Texas, has outperformed seasoned professionals in a national aviation maintenance competition. The event, held by the Aerospace Maintenance Council at Verticon in Atlanta, saw
the high school team surpass 22 other teams, including those from university programs, the U.S. Air Force, and an airline. The students, coached by Pete Miller, a former aviation maintenance technician at Southwest Airlines, excelled in the competition's events, which focused on basic technician skills such as safety wiring and torquing. The team won seven out of nine events, with team member Garrett Moore also receiving the professionalism award. This achievement highlights the effectiveness of the school's aircraft maintenance technology program, which combines core academics with hands-on aviation maintenance training.
