What's Happening?
Babcock International has achieved a significant milestone with the production of the first Jackal 3 Extenda models at its Devonport facility. In collaboration with Supacat, Babcock is manufacturing 53
six-wheeled 'Extenda' variants for the British Army. These vehicles, known as the Jackal 3 (E), are designed for high mobility and versatility, capable of performing reconnaissance, patrol, and logistic tasks. The addition of an extra axle enhances their load-carrying capacity while maintaining superior off-road performance. This production milestone follows the completion of the first tranche, which delivered 70 standard Jackal 3 models.
Why It's Important?
The production of the Jackal 3 Extenda models highlights the strategic importance of maintaining a robust defense manufacturing capability in the UK. The program supports high-quality engineering jobs and contributes to the local economy in the South-West region. It also aligns with the UK Government's Defence Industrial Strategy, which emphasizes the need for a resilient and collaborative supply chain. By providing the British Army with advanced vehicles, the program enhances the operational capabilities of the armed forces, ensuring they are equipped to handle a variety of missions.
What's Next?
Babcock and Supacat will continue the production of the Jackal 3 Extenda models, with further deliveries expected to support the British Army's operational needs. The ongoing collaboration between the companies and the UK Government is likely to strengthen the defense industrial base, ensuring the sustainability of high-value jobs and the development of cutting-edge military technology. As the defense sector evolves, the focus will remain on innovation and the integration of new technologies to meet future challenges.
