In a unique police pursuit, officers in Florida resorted to using paddleboards to apprehend a suspect who attempted to evade arrest by jumping into the Halifax River. The incident occurred when Chase Cruz, 28, fled from law enforcement officers who were
in the process of reading him his Miranda rights. The Volusia County deputy and a Daytona Beach Shores officer quickly adapted to the situation by commandeering paddleboards to pursue Cruz, who was floating in the river. The officers managed to reach Cruz, secure him with a flotation device, and escort him back to shore, where he was charged with loitering, prowling, and resisting arrest.
