A recent study published in JAMA Network Open has found that a diet low in inflammatory potential may significantly reduce the risk of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, among older adults. The research, conducted by Anja Mrhar and her team at Karolinska
Institutet, analyzed the dietary habits and health data of 1,865 older adults over a 15-year period. Participants who adhered to a diet with lower inflammatory potential, characterized by higher consumption of vegetables, tea, and coffee, and lower intake of red and processed meats, refined grains, and soft drinks, showed a reduced risk of developing dementia. Notably, this reduction in risk was observed even among individuals who had biomarkers indicating a higher predisposition to Alzheimer's disease.
