CABI participated in the inaugural China-Africa Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Alliance (CAASTIA) General Assembly in Ethiopia. The event, organized under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation,
brought together nearly 90 member institutions from Africa and China. Delegates discussed strengthening Africa's agricultural research and innovation systems to promote sustainable growth. CABI highlighted its long-standing collaboration with African countries and China, focusing on translating agricultural research into practical solutions that enhance food security and improve smallholder farmers' livelihoods.
Why It's Important?
The collaboration between China and Africa in agricultural science and technology is crucial for addressing food security challenges and improving agricultural productivity. By sharing expertise and resources, both regions can benefit from enhanced research capabilities and innovative solutions. CABI's involvement underscores the importance of partnerships in driving agricultural development and technological advancement. Successful projects, such as the biocontrol initiative in Rwanda, demonstrate the potential for South-South cooperation to deliver tangible benefits, including pest control and increased crop yields.
