Methuen, Massachusetts, is offering a municipal electricity supply program that promises significant savings for its residents as National Grid's rates are set to increase. Starting in August, National Grid's residential Basic Service supply price will
rise from 15.568 cents per kilowatt-hour to 17.185 cents. In contrast, Methuen's Community Choice Power Supply Program will maintain a rate of 12.83 cents per kilowatt-hour until December 2027. This initiative, led by Methuen Mayor David P. 'D.J.' Beauregard Jr., aims to provide about 25% savings on the supply portion of the electricity bill for participating residents. The program leverages community choice aggregation, allowing the city to procure electricity supply for households and businesses collectively, thus securing a more stable rate. Residents have the flexibility to join or leave the program at any time without penalties.
