What's Happening?
The NHL, NHLPA, and Everfi have launched a new educational program titled 'Future Goals: Hockey Careers Beyond the Ice'. This program is designed to give students in grades 6-9 a comprehensive view of
career possibilities within the hockey industry. The course includes interactive lessons focusing on Facilities Operations, Player Performance, Fan Engagement, and Business Intelligence. Students will engage in real-world scenarios, such as solving ice quality issues, developing athlete treatment plans, creating marketing strategies, and analyzing financial data. The program is aligned with educational standards and is offered free of charge to schools in the U.S. and Canada.
Why It's Important?
The launch of this program is crucial as it provides students with a broader understanding of the sports industry, emphasizing roles beyond athletic performance. By integrating STEM education with career exploration, the initiative aims to inspire students to consider careers in various fields related to sports, such as science, business, and marketing. This approach not only enhances educational engagement but also supports the development of future industry leaders. The NHL and NHLPA's commitment to education through this program highlights their dedication to community development and inclusivity in sports.
What's Next?
As the program rolls out, it is expected to reach more schools and students, potentially leading to further expansion and the development of additional educational modules. The NHL and NHLPA may explore partnerships with other educational organizations to enhance the program's offerings. The success of this initiative could serve as a model for other sports leagues to implement similar educational programs, fostering a new generation of sports professionals.
