A South Korean research team from the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials has successfully tested an AI-powered automatic firefighting system aboard a ship. The system is designed to autonomously
detect and extinguish oil fires, a common hazard on warships. It utilizes foam sprayers and an AI-based control unit to target fires accurately, even in challenging sea conditions. The system was tested on the ROKS Ilchulbong, a tank landing ship, and demonstrated high accuracy in delivering extinguishing agents from a distance.
