What's Happening?
Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced the release of 184 new crop varieties developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. This includes 60 rice
varieties, 50 maize, and 13 oilseeds. The announcement was made in New Delhi, where Chouhan highlighted India's achievement in rice production, surpassing China with over 150 million tons produced in 2025. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, over 3,200 new seed varieties have been developed in the past decade. The government aims to ensure that various agricultural schemes reach farmers nationwide within three years. Additionally, six zones have been established for regional conferences to prepare the Krishi roadmap for states. The government is also considering presenting the Seed bill in the upcoming parliament session.
