Assam has commenced the online self-enumeration phase for Census 2027, allowing residents to submit their household and individual information through a dedicated portal. This initiative, which began on August 1, 2026, will run until August 16, 2026.
The Director of Census Operations in Assam, Biswajit Pegu, emphasized the importance of this step in making the census more participatory and citizen-centric. Following this phase, the house-listing operations and housing census will start on August 17, 2026, and continue until September 15, 2026. The process has been postponed in the flood-affected districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo. The state government, led by the General Administration Department, is committed to supporting the census operations, ensuring confidentiality under the Census Act, 1948.
