What's Happening?
The Food Bank of the Southern Tier is hosting a free virtual training series to help community members develop advocacy skills. The series, which began with an 'Intro to the Food Bank' session, aims to educate participants on food access issues and empower
them to engage in community and policy change. The program is open to individuals from all backgrounds, offering sessions on storytelling for change, advocacy tools, and trauma-informed care. Participants who complete the series and have firsthand experience with food insecurity can join the Food Bank's Community Advocates Program, influencing hunger-relief efforts across the region.
Why It's Important?
This training series is crucial for empowering individuals to become advocates for food access and hunger relief. By equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to engage in advocacy, the Food Bank of the Southern Tier is fostering a community-driven approach to addressing food insecurity. The program encourages participants to share their experiences and influence policy changes, potentially leading to more effective hunger-relief strategies. As food insecurity remains a pressing issue, initiatives like this play a vital role in building a more equitable food system and supporting vulnerable populations.
