North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held a welcoming ceremony for an army engineering unit that returned from a 120-day deployment in Russia. The unit, known as the 528th Regiment of Engineers of the Korean People’s
Army, was involved in combat and engineering tasks in the Kursk region during Russia's conflict with Ukraine. Kim praised the soldiers for their 'heroic' conduct and 'mass heroism' in fulfilling orders from the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea. The ceremony, attended by senior military officials and families, highlighted the soldiers' loyalty and discipline. The unit was awarded the Order of Freedom and Independence, and nine soldiers who died were posthumously honored as Heroes of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
