What's Happening?
French startup Tornyol has developed a drone designed to hunt and eliminate mosquitoes using ultrasonic sonar technology. The drone, named LeSonar2, employs 32 ultrasonic emitters to detect mosquitoes in its environment, using a method similar to bat
echolocation. Once a mosquito is detected, the drone uses its propellers to neutralize the insect mid-air. The device is equipped with 380 smartphone microphones and an Artix-7 FPGA processor to create a real-time 3D map of its surroundings. Tornyol aims to provide an effective solution to mosquito-borne diseases, which are responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths annually.
