The Grand Forks City Council has given preliminary approval to several action items paving the way for a potential fourth Valley Senior Living facility near Duke Drive and South 34th Street. These approvals include replatting a lot in Medvue Estates Second
Addition to split it, and introducing and preliminarily approving an ordinance to rezone the addition for multi-family residences and scaled senior housing and care facilities. Garth Rydland, president and CEO of Valley Memorial Homes, stated that these steps are crucial as they prepare to purchase the property and ensure it can be utilized to best serve the community. Valley Memorial Homes has already acquired six acres for the project and is negotiating to purchase an additional 17 acres from Altru Health System. The proposed facility could feature skilled care wings, an assisted living wing, an independent living wing, and a 'town square' connecting them, with potential for 18 duplex units, 240 skilled care units, 60 independent living units, and 120 assisted living, basic care, or memory care units. A market study is currently underway to assess community needs.
