What's Happening?
Anna Weis, a national champion and former Olympian, is the first female grinder for US SailGP. At 27, she emphasizes the importance of strength training, agility, and balance in her sport. Weis began strength training at 15
and has since developed a comprehensive workout routine that includes mobility work, power exercises, and core strengthening. Her regimen is designed to help her withstand the physical demands of sailing, including the 3Gs of force experienced on the boat. Weis is also involved in the 'Lift Her Up Challenge,' a program aimed at empowering women through strength training.
Why It's Important?
Anna Weis's approach to training highlights the evolving role of women in competitive sailing, a sport traditionally dominated by men. Her emphasis on strength and agility reflects broader trends in sports where female athletes are increasingly recognized for their physical prowess. Weis's involvement in initiatives like the 'Lift Her Up Challenge' underscores the growing movement to empower women in sports and encourage participation in strength training. This shift not only promotes gender equality in athletics but also inspires a new generation of female athletes to pursue competitive sports.
