What's Happening?
Jotun has entered into a commercial agreement with Italian ship owner Ignazio Messina & C. to implement Jotun’s Hull Skating Solutions (HSS) on the vessel Jolly Rosa. This solution, developed in collaboration with Kongsberg, includes proactive hull cleaning and inspections, combining high-performance coatings, monitoring, and technical service. The agreement aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 11,800 tons annually across Messina's fleet, compared to market average products. Jotun's coatings have previously helped customers avoid 11.1 million tons of CO₂ emissions, verified by DNV.
Why It's Important?
The agreement between Jotun and Messina represents a significant step in reducing maritime emissions, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change. By adopting advanced hull cleaning technologies, Messina can enhance fuel efficiency and reduce environmental impact, setting a precedent for other shipping companies. This collaboration highlights the importance of innovative solutions in achieving sustainability goals within the maritime industry.
What's Next?
Messina will benefit from Jotun’s HullKeeper program, which provides real-time performance monitoring and fouling risk assessment. This partnership may encourage other shipping companies to adopt similar technologies, potentially leading to broader industry changes in emission reduction strategies.
