What's Happening?
Chef Donell Stallworth, who runs the kitchen at the Shrimp Basket in Pensacola, Florida, played a crucial role in saving the life of a regular customer, Charlie Hicks. Hicks, a 78-year-old Air Force veteran, had been a daily visitor to the restaurant
for nearly a decade, enjoying his routine of ordering gumbo and watching baseball. When Hicks failed to show up for his usual lunch in early September, Stallworth and the restaurant's manager, Denise Galloway, became concerned. After Galloway's call to Hicks went unanswered, Stallworth decided to visit Hicks's apartment, where he found Hicks on the floor, severely dehydrated and with broken ribs. Stallworth immediately called for medical assistance, which led to Hicks's hospitalization and subsequent recovery. The Shrimp Basket staff, considering Hicks part of their family, continued to support him during his recovery, even helping him secure a new apartment closer to the restaurant.
