What's Happening?
Andrea Iervolino has initiated the Made in Italy Film Export Federation (MIFE), a new organization aimed at promoting Italian film and audiovisual content on the international stage. The federation has attracted
around 50 producers, including notable companies such as Kalicon, Motus Studios, and Notorious Pictures. MIFE is affiliated with Confimpreseitalia, an Italian business association that supports micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. The federation's mission is to enhance the global competitiveness of Italian cinema, which Iervolino believes has been underutilized as a strategic export industry. MIFE aims to provide Italian producers with the tools and opportunities needed to succeed in international markets.
Why It's Important?
The establishment of MIFE is significant as it seeks to position Italian cinema as a major player in the global film industry. By organizing and structuring the export of Italian audiovisual content, the federation could potentially increase Italy's cultural influence and economic gains from the film sector. This initiative aligns with Italy's broader strategy of exporting its cultural products, similar to its success in fashion, automobiles, and food. The federation's collaboration with Confimpreseitalia and public institutions underscores its commitment to transforming Italian cinema into a robust economic and employment engine, enhancing Italy's international reputation.
What's Next?
MIFE plans to work closely with Confimpreseitalia and public institutions to create tangible opportunities for Italian producers. The federation will focus on building relationships and developing tools that facilitate structured access to international markets. This approach is expected to generate value and continuity for the Italian film industry, potentially leading to increased employment and economic benefits. As MIFE gains momentum, it may influence other cultural sectors in Italy to adopt similar strategies for global expansion.
