What's Happening?
The city of Albuquerque has installed two new speed cameras as part of its ongoing efforts to address speeding issues. These cameras, located at southbound Tramway near Lomas NE and westbound Paseo del Norte west of Barstow NE, are part of a broader initiative
that began in 2022. The city plans to add two more cameras on Coors by St. Joseph’s NW in early August, bringing the total to 38. This initiative is based on crash data, High Fatality and Injury Network maps, and local feedback. Since May 2022, Albuquerque has issued 795,525 speed citations, with 45.8% of them paid. Additionally, the city has introduced a rectangular rapid flashing beacon near Zia Elementary School and a HAWK signal at San Mateo and Anderson SE to improve pedestrian safety. Furthermore, 42 solar lights are being installed along the Silver Avenue Bicycle Boulevard to enhance visibility and safety for bicyclists.
