Kevin W. Meyers, the suspect involved in the shooting of an Indiana State Police trooper, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident occurred in a cornfield near his home outside Westville, Indiana. LaPorte County Coroner Lynn Swanson confirmed
the cause of death following an autopsy, though toxicology reports are pending. Meyers, 54, was accused of shooting at Sgt. Justin Heflin from a stolen pickup truck during a police pursuit. The confrontation resulted in Heflin being shot multiple times, though he is currently in stable condition after surgery. Meyers had a history of legal issues, including 29 criminal cases since 1993, primarily involving non-violent theft offenses. The incident marks the second time in two months that a law enforcement officer has been shot in LaPorte County.
