What's Happening?
The Portuguese Air Force is set to enhance its capabilities by acquiring four additional modernized Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. These helicopters are intended for aeromedical evacuation and emergency transport roles. The acquisition is part
of a EUR32 million (USD37 million) tender issued by the Administrative and Logistic Command of the Air Force, with proposals due by January 19, 2026. This expansion will bring the total number of Black Hawk helicopters in service to 13. The new helicopters will complement the existing fleet, which includes six modernized UH-60A and three UH-60L models. These aircraft are equipped with advanced features such as the Garmin G5000H digital cockpit suite, VHF and UHF radios, a satellite communications terminal, and a datalink system. The UH-60L models also include a weather radar, an external rescue hoist, and provisions for electronic warfare capabilities.
