CPV Renewable Power, a division of Competitive Power Ventures, has launched the CPV Backbone Solar project in Garrett County, Maryland. This 160-megawatt solar power project is the largest in the state and is situated on a reclaimed, decommissioned coal
mine. The project features 324,000 solar panels designed to generate enough energy to power 30,000 households. The initiative is part of CPV's mission to support a responsible energy transition by transforming exhausted coal mine land into a productive solar facility. The project is expected to add significant tax revenue to Garrett County and is seen as a strategic investment in energy communities. A second phase of the project is in development, which will increase the total capacity to 175 megawatts.
