What's Happening?
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has launched the 'Crushing Fraud Chili Cook-Off' competition, aimed at combating Medicare fraud through the use of explainable artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The initiative seeks to identify anomalies in Medicare Fee-for-Service claims data that could indicate fraudulent activities. The competition is structured in two phases, with the first phase inviting research proposals tailored to Medicare claims data. Ten teams will be selected to advance to the second phase, where they will apply their AI/ML techniques to a sample of claims data. The competition is open to U.S.-based teams, academic institutions, nonprofit organizations, and private sector entities.
