Stony Brook University has been awarded six inaugural awards through the U.S. Department of Energy's Genesis Mission, a national AI-for-science initiative. This initiative aims to accelerate scientific discovery and enhance U.S. leadership in innovation,
energy, and national security. The awards bring over $1.6 million in funding to Stony Brook, supporting collaborations with national laboratories and other institutions. The projects, led by researchers Jan C. Bernauer, Emre Salman, and Shikui Chen, focus on applying AI to nuclear physics, microelectronics, and power technologies. Additional subawards were granted to professors Nengkun Yu and Anatoly Frenkel for AI-enabled projects in computational physics and catalytic reaction analysis, respectively.
