What's Happening?
In December 2025, the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) conducted an official visit to Uzbekistan to enhance sustainable agriculture and climate resilience in Central Asia. The visit involved
high-level meetings with Uzbek government officials and academic partners, focusing on climate adaptation and sustainable development. ICBA Director General Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi met with Aziz Abudakhlikov, the Uzbek President’s Advisor on Ecology, to discuss ongoing cooperation and national environmental priorities. The discussions emphasized translating applied research into measurable results to improve resilience and resource efficiency. The visit also included plans for a spirulina cultivation laboratory in Tashkent, aimed at strengthening research capacity.
Why It's Important?
This collaboration is significant as it underscores the importance of sustainable partnerships in addressing climate change challenges in saline and climate-vulnerable regions. By focusing on science-driven solutions, the partnership aims to enhance climate resilience and sustainable development in Central Asia. The initiative supports Uzbekistan's efforts to improve agricultural practices and resource management, which are crucial for the region's economic stability and food security. The collaboration also highlights the role of international cooperation in tackling global environmental issues.
What's Next?
The ICBA's ongoing projects in Uzbekistan will continue to focus on climate-smart agriculture and integrated water and land management. The establishment of a spirulina cultivation laboratory in Tashkent is expected to bolster research and support integrated agriculture-aquaculture systems. Future efforts will likely involve scaling up successful initiatives and further aligning approaches with local stakeholders to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience.
