A Hazara teenager from Afghanistan, who was subjected to a pushback by Greek coast guards in 2020, has filed a claim with the UN Human Rights Committee against Greece. This action follows the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rejection of his case
in 2025 due to a lack of evidence, despite the provision of photos, videos, real-time location data, and records from the Turkish Coast Guard and Frontex. The then 15-year-old had arrived at a refugee camp in Samos after fleeing Taliban violence in 2018 and attempting to seek international protection in Iran and Turkey. His asylum requests were ignored, and he was reportedly handcuffed, had his phone and money stolen, and was returned to Turkey on a coast guard boat. He has since been granted refugee status in Europe.
