The Streator Public Library has significantly expanded its resources for survivors of domestic abuse, thanks to support from the RAILS My Library Is… Grant. This initiative was prompted by two specific instances where the library recognized a critical
gap in its services for individuals seeking help related to domestic violence. The library has acquired dozens of books focusing on domestic abuse awareness, healing, and recovery, addressing topics such as recognizing unhealthy relationships, rebuilding confidence, trauma recovery, and planning for a safer future. Additionally, the library purchased survivor journals and guided workbooks for patrons to take, and mobile hotspots for checkout, recognizing the essential need for reliable internet access for those leaving dangerous situations. The grant also facilitated a program in partnership with Safe Journeys, an organization assisting domestic abuse survivors, where participants learned about creating a 'go bag' and received essential resources.
