What's Happening?
The Falconeer, originally released in 2020, has undergone a significant remastering process led by developer Tomas Sala. The game, which involves piloting large predatory birds in an aerial combat RPG
setting, received a BAFTA nomination and was well-received upon its initial release. However, Sala was not satisfied with the final product and has spent considerable time reworking the game. The remaster, titled The Falconeer: Revolution Remaster, includes a complete visual overhaul, improved lighting, animations, and expanded world settings. Key mechanics have been altered, including automated landing, separated controls for dashing, and new trade routes. Sala's remastering efforts were driven by challenges faced during the game's simultaneous Xbox and PC launch amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Why It's Important?
The remastering of The Falconeer highlights the dedication of developers to improve and expand upon their creations, even after initial release. This update not only enhances the gaming experience for existing players but also attracts new audiences by offering a more polished and engaging product. The changes reflect a broader trend in the gaming industry where developers are increasingly revisiting and refining their games to meet evolving player expectations and technological advancements. This can lead to increased longevity and relevance of games in a competitive market, benefiting both developers and players.
What's Next?
The Falconeer: Revolution Remaster is now available, and Sala plans to hold a promotional event around November 10. Additionally, Sala is working on a third game set in the Falconeer's world, titled 'Ancient Waves,' which will focus on ship design and open-world adventure. These developments suggest continued expansion and exploration within the Falconeer universe, potentially leading to new gaming experiences and further engagement with the community.
