The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has reported receiving approximately 9,500 fitness-to-practise (FtP) concerns in the past year, marking a significant increase from the previous year. Kathie Cashell, the chief executive of the GPhC, announced
this at the Clinical Pharmacy Congress 2026, emphasizing the need for improved timeliness in FtP investigations. The GPhC is implementing an ambitious improvement plan to increase hearings capacity and address the backlog of cases. Despite the high number of concerns, only a small percentage lead to full investigations, and even fewer result in FtP hearings.
