The Punjab government is set to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its agricultural sector to boost productivity, sustainability, and farmers' income. This initiative is supported by the Centre
of Excellence at IIT Ropar. Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian chaired a meeting to review the progress and prepare a roadmap for implementing AI-based solutions at the field level. The minister emphasized the importance of new technologies providing tangible benefits to farmers and assured government support for pilot projects and the expansion of successful AI initiatives across the state. The plan includes installing automatic weather stations, involving farmers in data collection, supporting horticulture clusters, and expanding AI-based livestock productivity solutions. IIT Ropar is also planning to offer national-level courses on precision agriculture and AI in agriculture, with reserved seats for students and officers from Punjab to enhance the state's agri-technology capacity.
